DescriptionConcert Choir is for students in grades 10-12 who are ready to challenge themselves and grow their singing and music reading ability. This ensemble requires an audition to participate. Auditions occur the spring before the school year of desired participation. Concert Choir is the face of the PHN Choir program in the PHN community and Port Huron community at large. Students will work towards mastery of singing technique, tone quality, intonation, breath management, and rehearsal and performance practices. Students will help create a message with their music and will be responsible for communicating that to their audience. Students will be working on intermediate to advanced literature, sight reading, theory, and history. Students will continue their work in peer leadership, be responsible for guiding the direction of the choir program and the leadership teams in the younger choirs. Students will be asked to expand their leadership into the school community and community of Port Huron. Students perform in at least 4 concerts a year (2 per semester) as well as various small performances throughout the blue water area. Students will gain confidence in their singing voice, their ability to perform in groups and alone, and their ability to read music and understand what is being presented. Students will have the opportunity to arrange music with small groups as well.
